If there’s a check engine light while you drive

& your card keeps getting declined

If you find yourself one bill from broke

& every plan just turns into smoke Don’t give up on yourself

Conjure up a cuss storm if you want Curse the sky, the sun & the ground Quit anything that makes you feel like shit

Toxic people, stupid habits, all of it But don’t give up on yourself

You can throw social media in the bin

You can rid yourself of politics or sin Leave a church, leave a party, leave a job

Even a partner, if you must

Just don’t give up on yourself

When all your hopes have journeyed to hell

And all your wishes are deep in a well

When all your prospects are grim When all your chances are slim

Please don’t give up on yourself

Good things take time

& good lives take the most

There will be good here for you

Just promise me one thing you’ll do: That you don’t give up on yourself

A rebellion of care – David Gate
